Treatments can involve one or a combination of the following:
 |
Ultrasound-Guided Sclerotherapy – This treatment involves the
use of a duplex ultrasound machine to guide sclerotherapy of
abnormal varicose branch veins that cannot be seen on the surface of
the skin. This may be required when surface veins are originating
from these deeper veins. |
 |
Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT) This is a new office
procedure designed to replace invasive surgical stripping when a
patient has a more involved vein problem identified by ultrasound
testing. EVLT involves the placement of a tiny laser fiber into the
abnormal vein, and pulses of laser energy are used to close the vein
down from the inside. This procedure is done in about an hour,
requires no incisions, and is done using only local skin anesthesia.
Patients can walk immediately after the procedure, and recovery time
is minimal. |
 |
Other
Treatments: Surgical vein stripping, Phlebectomy. These
are more invasive treatments that may be required in some patients
with more involved vein problems. |
